Scope

Voltage range: 0.6/1 kV

This family covers low voltage distribution up to 1 kV: incoming and sub-main feeders, distribution boards, plant feeders, road and street lighting, and building services. Above 1 kV the enquiry belongs to the medium voltage family, which starts at 3.6/6 kV.

Every construction documented here is XLPE insulated with a PVC sheath over copper conductors. Where the specification calls for low smoke zero halogen behaviour, or for defined performance in fire, the constructions are drawn from those two families instead — they are kept separate so that the test evidence stays attached to the construction that carries it.

Each size is published with its own figures rather than a representative value: insulation, inner covering and sheath thickness, armour wire diameter or steel tape thickness, approximate overall diameter and weight, maximum DC resistance at 20 °C, AC test voltage, and current ratings in both air and soil.

Key characteristics

Five constructions documented side by side: unarmoured, aluminium wire armoured, galvanized steel wire armoured, stainless steel tape armoured, and a single-core stainless steel tape build. Single-core AC circuits take aluminium wire or stainless steel tape armour — a magnetic armour around a single core carries current itself.
Cross-sections from 1.5 mm² to 1000 mm², in 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 core and in 3+1, 3+2 and 4+1 core arrangements.
Twelve parameters published per size, including current ratings in air and in soil, so a feeder can be checked against the way it will actually be installed.
Working figures are catalogue values. Send the installation conditions and we will re-rate the cable against them rather than quote the table.

Construction

Each entry is identified three ways: an international description, a construction code naming the material build-up, and a national type designation given for cross-reference only. Read the code string left to right — conductor, insulation, then screening, armour and sheath where fitted.

Wire armoured, multi-core — the armour sits over the bedding, insulated cores inside.
Tape armoured — tape layers over the bedding, shown cut back at the end.
Single core, unarmoured — stranded copper conductor under a black sheath.
Conductor and the insulation extruded over it, peeled back at the end.
Multi-core build — colour-coded cores and bedding, opened out at the cut end.
Four cores cut back to the insulation — one of the core arrangements built to order.

Application For laying indoors and outdoors. Able to bear certain traction during installation, but not external mechanical forces. Laying single-core cables in magnetic ducts is not allowed.
