FAQ

What defines MDPE as a cable sheathing material, and how do its properties compare to alternative insulators like PVC, LDPE, and HDPE?

MDPE (medium density polyethylene) serves as a robust sheathing material for high-voltage cables (e.g., 11kV 35522 specifications), characterized by a balanced crystallinity that delivers superior dielectric strength, abrasion resistance, and oxidation stability. Its mechanical profile—harder than LDPE (low density polyethylene) for heavy-load applications and more crack-resistant than HDPE (high density polyethylene)—makes it ideal for demanding environments.   Key comparative advantages include: outperforming PVC in tropical climates where PVC softens and risks damage during installation; offering greater tensile strength than LDPE for heavy pulling operations; and providing enhanced fracture resistance versus HDPE. MDPE compounds can be engineered with additives to boost fire retardancy, UV protection, and chemical resilience, further expanding their suitability for harsh industrial and outdoor applications requiring long-term insulation integrity.
