High-temperature resistant power cables: Addressing the challenges of power transmission under high-temperature conditions and strengthening the safety barrier for industrial power supply

High-temperature resistant power cables belong to a special category of power cables, with their core capability being the ability to safely transmit electricity over extended periods at temperatures significantly higher than those of conventional cables.

I. Differences between high-temperature resistant power cables and ordinary cables:

Conventional power cables: generally rated for long-term operation at 70°C to 90°C, and for short-term operation up to 130°C.

High-temperature resistant power cables: rated for prolonged operation at 125°C to 250°C, with special variants capable of withstanding up to 450°C or even 1000°C.

Key points: The insulation and sheathing are made of high-temperature resistant materials, while the conductor is often subjected to anti-oxidation treatments (e.g., tin plating or silver plating).

II. Common Types and Temperature Resistance: 

Silicon rubber cable: -60°C to 180°C/200°C; flexible, cold-resistant, and flame-retardant.

Fluoroplastic cable (FEP/PFA/PTFE): Operating temperature range: -65°C to 200°C to 260°C; resistant to strong acids and alkalis, low-smoke, halogen-free.

Mineral-insulated cable (MI cable): withstands prolonged temperatures up to 250°C and short-term temperatures exceeding 1000°C; fire-resistant, explosion-proof, and features an exceptionally long service life.

Irradiation-crosslinked cable: operating temperature range of 125°C to 150°C; exhibits higher temperature resistance compared to conventional XLPE and supports greater current capacity.


III. Key Features: 

1、High-temperature resistant and resistant to aging;

2、Stable insulation with low breakdown risk;

3、 Oil-resistant, acid/alkali-resistant, and corrosion-resistant;

4、Higher current carrying capacity (enables greater current flow at the same cross-sectional area).

IV. Typical Applications: 

1、Metallurgy and Steel Plants: Near high-temperature furnaces and heating equipment;

2、 Chemical Industry: Reaction vessels, high-temperature pipelines, corrosive environments;

3、New Energy: Photovoltaic/wind power systems, energy storage systems, motor harnesses;

4、Drying/Coating: Drying ovens, paint baking lines;

5、Fire Protection/Public Buildings.
