FAQ

Are flame-retardant cables and fire-resistant cables the same? What are the differences between them?

Answer:

These two types of cables do not belong to the same category; they differ significantly in performance, application, and operating principles, and should not be used interchangeably.

Flame-retardant cable: It does not easily burn itself upon exposure to fire, effectively preventing the spread of flames along the cable. Once the fire source is removed, it extinguishes spontaneously, thereby avoiding extensive fire escalation.

It is primarily used in conventional buildings and daily power distribution lines to reduce fire spread risks, though continuous power supply cannot be guaranteed during a fire.

Fire-resistant cable: The insulation layer is made of high-temperature resistant and fire-resistant materials, enabling it to maintain normal electrical operation for a period under open flame exposure or high-temperature heating conditions.

It is primarily used in critical fire protection circuits such as fire pumps, emergency lighting, alarm systems, and power supply for evacuation routes, ensuring the operation of emergency equipment during fires.

Core differences summarized:

1.Function: Prevents flame spread and fire propagation; Fire-resistant for electrical operation during fires.

2.Application scenarios:  Conventional power distribution wiring; Dedicated fire emergency circuits.

3. Cost: Flame-retardant materials offer higher cost-effectiveness; Fire-resistant technologies involve more complex processes and incur higher costs.
