Hydrocarbon environments combine flammable atmospheres with aggressive chemicals, so the specification works on two tracks at once: limiting flame propagation and smoke behaviour on the one hand, and resisting oil, mud and solvents on the other. Instrumentation loops add screening requirements, because a noisy signal in a control room is a process problem, not a cable problem.
