Scope

Voltage range: 0.6/1 kV

This family covers halogen-free constructions chosen because of where they are installed: metro tunnels and stations, high-rise buildings, data centres, airports, ships' accommodation spaces and plant rooms. The point of the specification is what is in the smoke, not how much of it there is — acid gas from burning PVC is both toxic and corrosive to the electronics around it.

Low smoke and halogen-free are properties of the bedding and sheath compounds, so most of these constructions are a power or wiring design carrying halogen-free compounds instead of PVC.

Key characteristics

  • Documented construction WDZAN-YJY at 0.6/1 kV: copper conductor, mica tape fire barrier, XLPE insulation and a low smoke zero halogen sheath — halogen-free behaviour combined with circuit integrity.
  • Cross-sections from 1.5 mm² to 400 mm² in 1 to 5 core and in 3+1, 3+2 and 4+1 arrangements.
  • Referenced against IEC 60754 for halogen acid gas, IEC 61034 for smoke density and IEC 60332 for flame propagation — three separate tests, because none of them predicts the others.

Size range at a glance

Sizes are built to the cross-sections the project specifies rather than to a published range, so there is no size matrix to list here.

Construction

Constructions in this family are quoted as engineered items rather than offered as a fixed list of catalogue models, so there is no selection table to publish here. Send the parameters asked for on this page and we will come back with the applicable construction, a data sheet and a price.

Product photographs

Photographs of builds from this family. Core count, armouring and sheath follow the specification of each order — the data sheet for your build is issued with the quotation.

  • Black sheathed cable laid along the frame with the sheath printing running along it, cut back at the near end to show insulated cores and one core stripped to bare copper strands

Sheath printing along the cable, cut back to the insulated cores.

  • Cable cut back at an angle with the insulated cores fanned to one side and the copper conductors exposed

Cut back at the end — the cores fanned out with the copper showing.

  • Cable with the sheath peeled back along its length to the cores, one core taken down to a single copper wire

Sheath peeled back along the length to the cores.

  • Cable opened at the end — red, yellow, blue and green insulated cores with the bare copper conductors showing

Cores fanned at the end — bare copper conductors.

  • Cable stood on end with the sheath cut square at the base, the cores stacked above it and white filler at the cut

Core stack above the cut sheath, white filler between the cores.

  • The same core stack seen with the cable leaning at a tilt, the insulated cores and the white filler ring standing above the sheath

The same core assembly seen at a tilt.

Type designations by region

Buyers search for a supplier by the designation their own market uses. The codes listed against each construction above are the designations this family is ordered under in China; each is given for cross-reference only, and is published only where a supporting reference exists.

China GB

WDZ-YJY

The halogen-free build carries the WDZ prefix on the Chinese designation; the layer that changes is the sheath compound, not the conductor or the insulation. Where the enquiry also calls for circuit integrity in fire, the designation gains the fire-resistance letter and the construction gains a mica barrier — that variant is quoted under the fire resistant family.

Europe

N2XH DIN VDE 0276-604

Harmonised equivalent of the halogen-free build. N2XH does not by itself carry a fire-resistance (circuit-integrity) rating; where the project requires that as well, the construction is quoted under the fire resistant family.

Type designations are given for cross-reference, so a specification written to IEC, GB, EN, DIN VDE, BS or GOST finds the right construction. Each designation is defined by the standard named beside it. Construction, standard edition and approval route are confirmed against your specification before an order is placed.

To quote we need

Send what you have of the following — a partial enquiry still lets us start, and we will tell you which answers are missing.

  • Which tests the project specifies for smoke density, acid gas and flame propagation
  • Base construction — cores, cross-section, armour and screen
  • Whether circuit integrity is required in addition to halogen-free compounds
  • Where the cable is installed, and the ambient conditions
  • The standard you work to, the quantity and the drum lengths
