XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene) insulated cables feature thermoset insulation created through polymer chain cross-linking, which forms stronger molecular bonds. This structural enhancement enables extended temperature tolerance while preserving electrical performance, along with compatibility across a broad voltage spectrum. The material demonstrates superior high-temperature chemical and oil resistance, and can be formulated as Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) variants for enhanced safety.
Mechanically, XLPE insulation offers advantages including increased tensile strength, elongation capacity, and impact resistance compared to traditional materials. Additional performance benefits include improved resistance to thermal deformation, cut-through incidents, and aging, as well as enhanced water-tree mitigation properties—particularly valuable for low and medium voltage cable applications.
